Legendary Brazilian guitarist Carlos Barbosa-Lima brings the anniversary Chamber Music Series season to a close in this special collaboration with the Knoxville Guitar Society.

World-class guitarist and arranger Carlos Barbosa-Lima was born in December 1944 in Sao Paulo.  Showing an early passion for music, he began guitar studies at the age of seven, and as a young guitarist, received rave reviews in Brazil before his debuts in the United States.

With successful recitals in Washington, DC, and New York's Carnegie Recital Hall, he was propelled to the front of the world guitar stage, and he celebrated his 50th recording release at Weill Recital Hall in 2010.

Holding teaching posts at Carnegie Mellon University and the Manhattan School of Music, Barbosa-Lima developed a technique he describes as “multi-linear.” Alberto Ginastera composed his Sonata for Guitar, op. 47 for Barbosa-Lima.  Maintaining a teaching and performance career, Barbosa-Lima became a 2015 Guitar Foundation of America Hall of Fame recipient, and he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Music in 2017.  His crossover performance styles and repertoire include Brazilian, American and British songwriters, classical, jazz, popular, and more
