Oak Ridge High School Performing Arts Center

Music Director Dan Allcott leads the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra & Chorus in collaboration with the Roane Choral Society to open the 2021–2022 subscription series on Sunday, October 10, 2021, with Native Lands, Take 2. The concert features music by Jean Sibelius and Jeff Midkiff postponed in 2020 due to the pandemic, plus Kathryn Bostic’s Portrait of a Peaceful Warrior.  The concert is part of our Penny4Arts programming offering FREE attendance for youths 18 and under.

Journey with Dan Allcott, the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra, and the music of composers Jennifer Jolley (photo credit Elizabeth Glenn Photography), Takuma Itoh (photo credit Ben Ferrari), Gabriela Lena Frank (photo credit Mariah Tauger), and J. S. Bach as their musical soundscapes take you around the world, throughout time, and wherever your imagination takes you.  Maybe it's a ride on Mr. Roger's Neighborhood Trolley!  Soloists Shelby Shankland, flute; Karen Kartal, violin; and Malcolm Matthews, harpsichord add to the adventure.  The concert is part of our Penny4Arts programming offering FREE attendance for youths 18 and under.

Beginnings: Messiah

South Harriman Baptist Church

The Oak Ridge Chorus and Roane Choral Society join forces in this performance of Messiah, part I.  Be uplifted by this holiday favorite led by Choral Director Brenda Luggie.  Although this concert is being presented in addition to our subscription series, the concert is part of our Penny4Arts programming offering FREE attendance for youths 18 and under.

Lyrical & Percussive

Opposites attract in this concert by the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra featuring lyrical and percussive music– but not always from the instrument families you expect.  Principal cellist Theodore Kartal performs Bloch's "Prayer." The concert is part of our Penny4Arts programming offering FREE attendance for youths 18 and under.

The Journey

Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church

The journey is different for each of us as humans, but there are common themes.  Hear the Oak Ridge Chorus sing about our journeys in this uplifting concert.  A special commissioned piece by composer Jorge Variego will be announced, and additional music on the program features a diverse range of composers.  A silent auction is planned for the occasion.  This concert is part of our Penny4Arts programming that offers free admission to youths 18 and under.

Harlem Quartet

Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church

The Grammy-award winning Harlem Quartet advances diversity in classical music while engaging new audiences with varied repertoire that includes works by minority composers.  Members of the string quartet are Cuban violinist Ilmar Gavilan, American violinist Melissa White, Puerto Rican violist Jaime Amador, and American cellist Felix Umansky. New Date!  Friday, April 29, 2022.  7:30 PM concert.  7:00 PM pre-concert talk. 

Founded in 2013, the Cumberland Piano Trio has enjoyed performing for audiences throughout Middle and East Tennessee since that time.  The members – violinist Karen Kartal, cellist Dan Allcott and pianist Emi Kagawa – are well-known performers and teachers in the state.
